SOCOTRA
Socotra, Yemen
For a week, I wandered through a land that feels untouched by time, Socotra, an island adrift in the Arabian Sea. Here, the iconic Dragon’s Blood Trees rise like ancient umbrellas against an endless sky, while the swollen trunks of Desert Rose trees bloom with surreal pink flowers.
We drove for hours on rugged tracks in a 4x4, crossing empty plains and vast sand dunes that seemed to swallow the horizon. At night, we slept in simple tents beneath a canopy of stars, no Wi-Fi, no signal, just the hum of the wind. One day, I shared tea with a man who lives in a cave by a turquoise lagoon, his stories echoing through the silence of this forgotten place.
Deep in the island’s heart, we explored a cave stretching over two kilometers into darkness, a reminder of how wild and untamed Socotra still is. This is a place where nature writes its own myths, and for a brief moment, I was part of them.
